The song your thinking of is probably 'It's the same old love' by TheCourtship.

Hello
Hello, I am looking for a pretty ra re song from 1972 that I heard in early July of that year: a track that made a brief appearance on top 40 stations for a week or two and then disappeared. It is by a harmony group: kind of a sunshine pop song, more reminiscent of the mid-late +1960s. Is there a listing of the top 100 songs that were played during the week of July 2nd 1972? How else might I find +this track? +Best Regards, +Justin M Devitt +(St. Paul MN)

Do you know this song?
I was in Europe in the spring of 1972, and I'm trying to find a song I heardon the radio there. It had a flute part similar to Paul Simon's "Duncan" and lyrics about rivers and seasons turning and clouds. Anyone recognize this? I never heard it again after I returned stateside.

Here in Harrisburg PA in the year 1972 we experienced tropical storm Agnesfrom June 19 to June 26 1972. I was wondering if in our area there was a popular song played during the time of this tropical storm?

Smoke on the water? Highway star? Lazy?
"Smoke On the Water" counts as 1973 (the year it was a hit) not 1972, it is listed as the 17th song of that year. "Lazy" was not a hit anywhere (not in our lists anyway) and "Highway Star" was nowhere near a big enough hit to make the top 100 of 1972.

Derek & The Dominos
"Layla" also peaked at No. 4 in the UK Charts in April 1982. And I think, that "Sylvia's Mother" by Dr. Hook was bigger hit than Roberta Flack's song. Sylvia went to No. 1 in more countries, and also was Top 5 in UK (Flack's not), and was charted in more countries (more sold copies).
Regards.
Because "Layla" was in the charts on two isolated releases the 1982 the one released in 1982 has been labeled as "Layla (1982)" in these lists (and was as you say UK 4 - Mar 1982 (10 weeks)).
"Sylvia's Mother" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" have such close scores in these lists that it really isn't possible to say which was a bigger hit. You need to remember that while the Dr Hook song was bigger in more countries Roberta Flack was number 1 in the US, while Dr Hook only managed number 5. The fact that the US market was so large means that we are not confident in your guess that "Sylvia's Mother" sold more copies.
We think the best that can be said is that it is unclear which one had the most total success.
