Songs from the 1930s
The Wall Street crash generated the worst depression that the world had ever seen, leading to another World War. Of course the public turned to films and music to help them forget their troubles.

looking for a song
Hi! Im looking for an old songs namely "Just for you" and "my one and only". I cant find it.
I would like to sing these +two songs for my parents golden wedding. These is their theme song when they were young. its hard to find coz they dont know who sang that song.

Neither of those exact titles are in the charts. There are some similar titles we would suspect:
Gene Austin "Yearning (Just for You)" (1925), The Original Tuxedo Jazz Orchestra "Just for You Dear, I'm Crying" (1927), Andy Kirk "Honey, Just for You" (1930), Ada Jones & Billy Murray "I'm Crying Just for You" (1914), Eddie Morton "I'm Crying Just for You" (1914)
Fred Astaire "My One & Only Love" (1929), Jane Green "My One & Only Love" (1928)

No Benny Goodman?
Honestly pretty surprised to see no Goodman for the 30s. I trust your system, but I gotta say, I found that very interesting. Also, that Al Jolson came in second behind Paul Whiteman. Very cool chart here. Definitely not surprised to see Bing in first place for 2 decades, though. That man absolutely dominated the airwaves.
If you look at the 1930s page you will find Benny Goodman at number 7 for the 1930s. Given that he had few hits 1930-1934 that feels about right to us. He was the top act of 1936 (by our numbers)
This is just one of those artifacts that comes from splitting decades at the 9 / 0 boundary.

Looking for song I had in '30 +Memory Isle
There in the night on the summer sea, where for a while it comes back to me. I love you so, I love you so. Melody ringing through all the years, memories clinging through smiles and tears. In my dreams I called it Memory Isle, where I lingered a while, in the light of a smile, and I'm harking back-------while she's waiting for me on Memory Isle.+

looking for a 30s-40s song title and artist
we have the first two verses but can find no title or artist any where. your mine when shades of night are falling, your mine what ever time of day, your mine when the stars lose their glory, neath the dawing of silver grey.your mine when songbirds sing at dawning, and all the world doth seem sublime, your mine though i know for you sent me a sign, that your mine for the rest of time.

Dance band tune "Home"
Looking for sheet music to a 1940-ish tune titled "Home". Only recording I've seen is by "Teddy Powell and his 1950 Orchestra".
We don't have sheet music on this site, just charts.
Teddy Powell & his Orchestra had four Billboard hits in the 1940s (1941 to 1942), maybe you should be looking a bit later?

Looking for a 1930's love song
Help! +My 91-yr old mom remembers a song most likely from the 1930's, but we can't find it anywhere! +It goes:
"Love is calling me, I gotta go where you are, If it's wrong or right, I gotta go where you are..... Ain't no chains can bind you, if you live I'll find you, Love is calling me, I gotta go where you are." thank you!
We don't know, maybe another user will be able to identify it.

I heard some 1930's music from the era that South Riding has been filmed - and its driving me NUTS trying to find it. +The artists name began with something like Al and the surname was strange, from what I remember something like Ollwyn.
Oh please can someone help! +I need the piece of music!!!!!
There are a number of artists called "Al ??" from the 1930s.
For example: Al Donahue - "Jeepers Creepers" (1939), Al Goodman - "Thank Your Father" (1930), Al Jolson - "Let Me Sing & I'm Happy" (1930).
However given that "South Riding" is set in the UK the best candidate would have to be Al Bowlly who had the following hits (unfortunately there are no UK charts from that time):
"Goodnight Sweetheart" (1931) - Peel list 2 of 1931
"My Melancholy Baby" (1935) - US Billboard 20 - 1935 (1 week)
"The Very Thought of You" (1934) - RYM 35 of 1934
"Blue Moon" (1935 with the Ray Noble Orchestra) - US Billboard 5 - 1935 (6 weeks), Brazil 60 of 1936

Looking for a song containing following words: "Goodnight Sweetheart, Till wemeet tomorrow, Goodnight Sweetheart, sleep will banish sorrow", etc.
This site does not have song lyrics. However the song you want is "Goodnight Sweetheart" and was a hit for Guy Lombardo and others in 1931.
Searching for "Goodnight Sweetheart, Till we meet tomorrow" would have found you the answer
