London Calling
Is it possible if you can increase the scores of 'Rolling Stone'and'RYM'. seriously some 'professional'charts like Hall of fame,RYM,Rolling stone should take up more proportion, normal charts only means if songs were'good-selled' or not. London calling is even one of the greatest song in history, at least itshould be at Top 20 in 1979,is that true.
This site focuses on success in the charts, which only has a passing correlation with how "good" a song is. There are plenty of songs that are high in the charts but of dubious quality, look at the top 10 of this year and anyone will hate at least one of them. Conversely there are plenty of great songs from 1979 that are not in this list, personally I'd include "A Message to You Rudy" and "Gangsters" by The Specials, "Oliver's Army" by Elvis Costello, "Making Plans For Nigel" by XTC, "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen, "Money (That's What I Want)" by The Flying Lizards, "Breakfast in America" by Supertramp, "Cool For Cats" by Squeeze and "Song for Guy" by Elton John (just to name a few).
But the goal of this site is NOT to allow our personal preferences to influence the results. So however much we may personally rate, for example "London Calling" (or "I Fought the Law", or "English Civil War (Johnny Comes Marching Home)") we will not adjust the scoring mechanism to promote it. That approach would deliver a different (more personal) listing.
Now that's not to say that such an approach is invalid, indeed we enjoy a good personal site, but that is not what we are trying to deliver.
If you want to set up such a site our CSV file would help, and tell us about it when you have so we can check it out.

Looking for a disco song from end of 1979
Hi,
There is a song from 1979 (or may be early 1980) which I've been looking for since 25 years. The only thing I remember is that at the +beginning of it you hear this: WHUP TIL A WHUP TIL A WHUP TIL A WHUP TIL A WHUP TIL A WHUP TIL A WHUP TIL A WHUP TIL A WHUUUUUUUP .... and then a short text. The first part was song by a female or a group of females and then the short text by a female. Some track of "Avant" or "U.N." remind me of this song I'm searching for. Can anyone help me? I have no doubt that this song exists somewhere on YouTube but as long as I don't know the name the seach is hopeless although I'm still checking videos of YouTube every day but so far no success.
Any hint or suggestion is most appreciated.
Cheers!
Ben

Looking for a song played April, May 1979
Don´t know the lyrics at all. It´s a song that sounds similar to "Mellowlovin´" from Judy Cheeks. It´s not her who sings that song, but music is very similar, with guitar, castanets.. It really lasted very short on radio, and never again played it. Can you help?

You are my sunshine
There was a song in either 1979 or 1980 that began with bells playing the melody to, "you are my sunshine, my only sunshine,...". Do you remember the name of this song?

Tough question I think
I remember a song, actually more the melody which was a popular song in South Africa somewhere between 1978 and 1982. +I guess it was on the Springbok Radio charts. The artist or lead singer was male and it included lyrics that went something like this:" +the girl is a young "egyptian" (of this word I am not sure at ALL) and the next phrase was something like :" a frightful and young "egyptian" (again not sure)or :"a frightfully young "egyptian"". +If I have to narrow down the years it was a hit in RSA I would say probably between late 1981 and late 1982.
Please give it some thought.
It is a quite an upbeat song,at least the chorus of which the above phrases form part of, is.

The Cars- let's Go
This chart features some really great songs, but I can't beleive "Let's Go" The Cars was left out. It was clearly one of the best songs of 1979. Even the charts were it failed to reach top 10, decided to include it in the top 100 songs of 1979.
The position of each song is set by its chart entries. The 100th song was a number one in Switzerland and Italy while in contrast "Let's Go" was not in the top 10 in the US or the top 50 in the UK. The rules of the site don't let us "decide" to change the order that the numbers deliver. On this site the order is set by the chart entries and the rules, no one, not even the administrators, get to fiddle with the results.
The song is, of course, listed, on the page dedicated to The Cars.

Heartbreak hotel alt.
I remember a song from the early 80's (I think).. can't remember the name or the band (1 hit wonder probably)but do remember some lyrics..the chorus goes something like this:
"Why don't we put in at heartbreak hotel, I long for service at the ring of a bell, we could sleep in late, (sleep in late), your mommy and daddy can wait. (daddy can wait)"
other lyrics are.."Hey mama it's a long long way, to the borderline home where the butterflies play all day"
I know it sounds a bit naff but was a catchy tune, can't find it in any search i've done...any ideas
Regards, Nev
You were correct in thinking it was a one hit wonder and you got the lyrics quite close, but we think the line is "Why don't we put in at the halfway hotel"
The song is "Halfway Hotel" by Voyager and was in the following charts:
"Springbok 12 - Aug 1979 (5 weeks), Sweden (alt) 18 - Jul 1979 (2 weeks), UK 33 - May 1979 (8 weeks), RIANZ 34 - Nov 1979 (5 weeks)"
