First, Your site is amazing! I noticed what might be a couple typos referencing 1953 on the 1954 page: 10 Eddie Fisher^Oh My Papa (O Mein Papa)^1954, ... US 1 for 8 weeks - Jan 1953, ... 85 Leslie Caron & Mel Ferrer^Hi Lili, Hi Lo^1954 ... US Billboard 30 - May 1953 (1 week) ... I also saw a few dates from Dec of 1953, but I figure that makes sense for songs on the charts from one year to the next. Hope this helps. +And thanks! In the Eddie Fisher case you are correct. A song that entered the Billboard charts in Dec 1953 is unlikely to have been number 1 in Jan 1953. It was, of course, number 1 in Jan 1954. The data has been corrected. The second case is more interesting. The "year" of a song is calculated as the median year of all the charts it entered, that's really the only way we could do it. That song entered the US chart in 1953, but the French and Brazilian charts in 1954. So the median in 1954. That is the only way it works, consider the song "Reet Petite". It entered the charts in 1957 in Canada, UK and USA. In 1987 it became a hit in those countries and in Holland, Belgium, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Norway and Austria. So most people looking for it will be looking in 1987, not 1957. 25 Apr 2016 Question do you really know if this was the year or not because im working on a project The year 1954 took place in... 1954. The songs listed here were hits that year (look at the chart details) It is unclear what question you are asking. 18 May 2015 Song and lyrics to +Itshall come to Pass by the FourAces +Would like the lyrics to It shall come to pass +by the Four Aces 30 Sep 2014 #3-Crew Cuts- Sh-Boom This also made the Peel List (#3). Thanks Thank you, the data has been fixed 15 Jan 2014 secret love "secret love" by kathy kirby The Kathy Kirby version was a hit only in the 1960s 2 Apr 2013 # 87 Hajji Baba This was a # 14 Billboard Hit. It was released on Capitol 2949. You are right, the data has been fixed, thanks for the suggestion 25 Jan 2013 Missing Song I dont find " Till we two are one " by Goergie Shaw. It reached no. 7 on the charts sometime in 1954. Thanks. This site lists the top 100 songs of each year and all the hits (anywhere) by the top 1000 artists. The song you mention was a hit in the US, but nowhere else, it was not one of the world's top 100 songs of 1954 and Georgie Shaw was not one of the top 1000 artists. So its not listed. 23 Jul 2012 Been So Long I never heard 'Been So Long' by Ben E. King but there was a song by 'The Pastels' called 'Been So Long' that I first heard in 1957-58-or 59. 4 Apr 2012 'Love You Dearly' I am trying to find the lyrics to a song that Doris Day sang in her movie Lucky Me - the Song title is LOVE YOU DEARLY. She sang this song with Phil Cummings. Following are the details of the song but I have not been able to find the lyrics online....can you help me out? Please!! "Love You Dearly" Music by Sammy Fain Lyrics by Paul Francis Webster Sung by Doris Day and Robert Cummings (dubbed by Hal Derwin) From Doris Day Movie "Lucky Me" 1954 3 Mar 2012 Four Knights Song Title I believe the correct title of the Four Knights song is "Oh Baby Mine (I Get So Lonely)". Originally many records were released with different titles in different countries, so there is no such thing as THE correct title. We often have to modify titles to make the entries consistent across different countries. In this case however the original Bullfrog listing of the Billboard chart has "I Get So Lonely (When I Dream About You)", and we would trust that source. What source do you have for your suggestion? 8 Jan 2012 # 36 Heart of Stone The correct title is Hearts of Stone. 6 Jan 2012 Italian song of the year 1954 Cant seem to find what song was Italian song of the year in 1954 ? We list the international hits (across many countries). If you want to know the hits in a particular country you need to go to a specialised site. For Italy we would suggest: http://www.hitparadeitalia.it/hp_yends/hpe1954.htm 18 Sep 2011 BEEN SO LONG Ben E. King sang rhis song during 1954-1959, I have'nt beeb able to find it ANYWHERE, would appreciate your help That wasn't a hit in any of the charts we have access to 17 Sep 2011 A song from early 50's sung by Johnnie Frances This song was called 'Madonna Madonna' And was top of the top twenty in the good old days of radio Luxembourg. They were the only people who would play it and used to have to fade the actual words Madonna Madonna for religeous reasons but of course that made it a huge hit at the time. The words were Maddona Madonna I stand here alone tonight look down on me please from up above tell me how did I come to lose my love I know it's daft but everybody thinks I've made it up!! Please somebody help!!!!!!!!! There is a song called "Madonna, Madonna" that was a hit for Tony Bennett in 1954 in the US (and for Alain Chamfort in France during 1975). If you had searched for "Madonna, Madonna" in the site search box at the top of the page, or if you'd look in the Site Index you would have found it. 10 Jul 2011 Lonnie Donegan Could you please provide info as to where Lonnie Donegan's Rock Island Line placed on the Billboard charts. Thanks.
There is a page for Lonnie Donegan that has that information on it, "Rock Island Line" was song number 40 of 1955. It reached number 8 in the Billboard charts (its run there was 17 weeks starting Mar 1956). We suspect that the year of 1954 on the Acclaimed music site is incorrect, since it entered both the US and UK charts in 1956. Our calculation places it in 1955, as do the RYM and DDD sites, because that is between the Acclaimed and Billboard dates. Lonnie Donegan's version was the most successful although Leadbelly had a version of the song in 1944. Following Lonnie Donegan's hit it was a hit for Don Cornell in the US and Stan Freberg in the UK. Johnny Cash's version was number 93 in the Billboard chart in Feb 1970. 23 Apr 2011 To make contact by e-mail Dear sirs: I'm from Chile So. America, and want to make contact by e-mail with the person who's needing the lyrics of "You fooled me", "Till there was you", "Two faces in the dark", "God's little gift", by the 4 Aces, I am a real fanatic of this Group. Thanks beforehand We'll pass your details on 22 Apr 2011 No 74. The Drifters - Honey Love Hi, I'm a big fan of your sites, however, may I know why this songs listed does not include the name of Clyde McPhatter. I owned a set of Atlantic Box Set, they have include his name as artist for this song. so, it appears as "Clyde McPhatter and The Drifters". May i know why the difference? Thank You The artists credited with this song varied from one market to another, in the Billboard charts the song was listed as abe by "Drifters" (without "The" and certainly with no mention of Clyde McPhatter). If you look at the artist's page you will see that we note some of the complexities. We, of course, have to consolidate all the entries from around the world, otherwise we won't get a reasonable impression of the total success of a particular song or album. That's why the artist name listed on a particular "Greatest Hits" album may be different from what is listed here. 21 Feb 2011 Need lyrics of songs by the 4 Aces These are: "It shall come to pass", "You fooled me", "Till there was you", "Two faces in the dark", "God's little gift". I need them, cause I am an old admirer of this fantastic Group, and are the lyrics I am missing. Who can help me? Unfortunately this site does not hold lyrics. Try searching for, for example "Till there was you lyrics" in Google. 22 Jan 2011 four aces song The title of the song is "It shall come to pass". I have it on 45 That song is listed on the "Four Aces" page. It was only a hit in the Cashbox files so it didn't make the top 100 songs of 1954.
13 Sep 2010 Mario Lanza - Drink Drink Drink I don't see this song being listed, can I know why. Certainly. The song "Drink Drink Drink" by Mario Lanza reached number 21 in Billboard (Oct 1954 - 4 weeks) and number 29 in the CashBox charts (Oct 1954 - 3 weeks) However we only list the top 100 songs of each year, the last song in this list ("Jilted" by Teresa Brewer in the 1.9.073 data) was number 6 in Billboard, number 11 in the Cashbox charts and number 14 in the "US 1940s" chart. Clearly a bigger hit. Unfortunatley Mario Lanza had his hits at a time when charts are not available for many countries. So the scores for his songs are not high. His biggest hit ("Be My Love" in 1951) was a number 1 in the US and a success around the world. However the total score from his 16 hits only ranks him as the 1121st artist of all time (too far down to get his own dedicated page). So that song is not listed because a) by our calculation it is the 234th biggest hit of 1954 and we only list the top 100 b) Mario Lanza is not in the 1000 biggest acts of all time so it doesn't show up on a page dedicated to him 11 Aug 2010 Double listing / Spelling # 52 and # 84 is the same record. Apparently the error is caused by different spelling of the title. The artist of # 74 is spelled "Connee Boswell". Thanks for your wonderful site! You corrections have been implemented, thanks for the input 26 Feb 2010 Song:- 'Little Things Mean A Lot' Trying to find the full lyrics to this. Needed TOMORROW for 70th Birthday celebrations! Any/All help appreciated. The cycle time at this site is such that there is no chance we could find lyrics for tomorrow. On this site you can find that Kitty Kallen had a big hit with the song in 1954. That in turn should be enough to find the song on most lyric sites, for example on lyricwiki it is at: http://lyrics.wikia.com/Kallen_Kitty:Little_Things_Mean_A_Lot 26 Dec 2009 Four Aces song 1954 I've been trying for years to find the singing group of a song with the words: "Ask for love, to fill your heart with spring, to make your ....., to make you laugh and sing. You only have to ask, and it shall come to pass!" Would you have a snippet of this music and song that I could listen to before I purchase it? Thank you, Barbara in Indiana We do not host any "snipets of music" at this site at all. You should try sites like iTunes and Amazon to get those. In addition we can't find any song that has those lyrics. 30 Nov 2009 Heart of my Heart I am looking for a song called "Heart of my Heart" by Alan Dale, Johnny Desmond and Don Cornell. When was that a hit and how big was it? The song you want was actually called "The Gang That Sang 'Heart of My Heart'", it was the only hit by the trio you mentioned and none of them had enough hits on their own to be listed. It reached number 10 in the Billboard chart (entering in Dec 1953 and running for 10 weeks), it peaked at 18 in the Billboard Jukebox chart (entering in Dec 1953 and running for 5 weeks) and number 5 in the Cashbox magazine chart (entering Nov 1953 and running for 23 weeks) The song was also a slightly bigger hit for "Four Aces" (US 1940s 8 - Dec 1953 (16 weeks), US CashBox 5 - Dec 1953 (19 weeks), US Billboard 7 - Dec 1953 (18 weeks), US BB 19 of 1953, POP 19 of 1953) and a minor hit in the UK for Max Bygraves (entering in May 1954 peaking at number 7 and running for 8 weeks) According to Wikipedia (which has a page about it) the song was originally written in 1926 by Ben Ryan and is about a popular song first performed in 1899 13 Nov 2008 inconsistancies I have found I am using your lists to help me learn more about music through the ages. They are very helpful!! Thanks for your efforts. I have been noticing some inconsistancies you may wish to look at renate 1954 75 Four Aces (see #54) Mr Sandman Thanks for the correction, that has been done.
