Never mind, I figured it out. There are 106 songs from 1989 in the top 5000, those are the leftovers. +Thanks! +As you can tell, I'm pretty fascinated by this wealth of data.

OK good to see you are getting value out of it.

Did you just revise this chart

I have been looking at the top 5000 by years and suddenly some of the songs from my chart aren't here. + I Drove All Night Cyndi Lauper +still links to 1989 from the artist page, though. Cover Girl New Kids On The Block Lay Your Hands On Me Bon Jovi +also links to 1989 from the artist page I Don't Want a Lover Texas My Heart Can't Tell You No Rod Stewart When the Children Cry White Lion

I haven't checked the others. +Did the data change?

Which top 5000 list. The name of the file tells you the version of the data it came from. If it is 2.6 or 2.7 the parameters have changed... a lot, the data is also continually being corrected. Both these will move entries about (that's why we have version numbers).

If Only I Could was a big hit in Europe, I don't think any hits which has madetop 10 in many European countries should be ignored. Actually 5 Top 10 in Europe Is equally the same as a number 3 hit in the USA.+

Licence to kill-Gladys Knight is not here? It was a huge hit in Europe+

It is just outside the top 100 of 1989. It was number 1 in Sweden, number 2 in Holland, Switzerland and Norway, and a bigger hit than, for example Debbie Gibson's "Electric Youth" in Europe. However, its score has been reduced because it was *only* a hit in Europe, no showing at all in the US, Japan, the other English speaking countries or the rest of the world.

Gladys Knight - "Licence to Kill" (1989) - Sweden 1 - Aug 1989 (4 weeks), Holland 2 - Jun 1989 (12 weeks), Switzerland 2 - Jul 1989 (18 weeks), Norway 2 - Jul 1989 (14 weeks), ODK Germany 3 - Jul 1989 (16 weeks) (5 weeks in top 10), UK 6 - Jun 1989 (11 weeks), Belgium 6 - Jul 1989 (13 weeks), Germany 7 - Aug 1989 (2 months), Poland 9 - Aug 1989 (12 weeks), Switzerland 11 of 1989"

Spelling mistake/Warrant

You have spelled the name of the band Warrant incorrectly (#86 - 1989). It is Warrant - not Warrent.

The name has been changed, thanks for the suggestion

The Proclaimers song

Why isn't The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)" in the Top 100 for 1989? The song went to number one in Australia, number three in the US and number eleven in the UK.

The reason is because it was also a hit in the USA, but in 1993. The year assigned to a song is based on the charts it is in, and that song was in more charts in 1993 than in 1989 so it has been assigned that year not 1989.

Of course you could have found the entry by looking up the Proclaimers in the index, or using the search box at the top of each page.
