Sources and Swedes

Hi. My name is Jonas Thorell and I'm a concert promotor, musician and ethnomusicologist from Sweden. Am searching for the earliest contribution by someone from Sweden on the US charts. Earliest I've found so far by a Swedish artist is the song "Sole sole sole", sung by Swedish Siw Malmqvist (and Italian Umberto Marcato) in 1964. Earliest so far by Swedish songwriter is "Lay down your arms" by the Chordettes in 1956, music by Swedish Åke Gerhard and Leon Landgren (it was originally called "Anne-Caroline" with Swedish lyrics). But I wonder if there would be a way to find earlier contributions on the US charts. Songs by Joe Hill for instance? I believe he never recorded anything himself, but perhaps other artists recorded his songs? Or Jenny Lind, Jussi Björling or Birgit Nilsson perhaps. Is there a way you could help me? Also, I wonder what your sources are for the first decades of the 20th century?

Yours Jonas Thorell

All the sources are listed in the "Song Charts" and "Album Charts" pages. If you have a reliable source for Sweden from before 1960 we want to hear about it.
