Bessie Smith #25

"Jealous Hearted Blues"- I can find no record of this being elected to theNRR(Library of Congress).I think maybe this should be added to "Down Hearted Blues"(#1)which was elected to Library of Congress in 2002.

The original data says the song "Hearted Blues" was selected, we knew that must be wrong but selected the wrong Bessie Smith song. Thanks for the correction

#7 Dippermouth Blues

Oliver recorded Dippermouth Blues twice in 1923. First for Gennett 5132-A (King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band) and second for OKeh 4918-A (King Oliver's Jazz Band). It is the OKeh recording which charted at #9 on Billboard. Armstrong performs on both recordings, but only as a member of the band. However, many listings credit Armstrong because his historical prominence overshadows Oliver's.

Thanks for the details

1923

You have Dippermouth Blues for both King Oliver's Jazz Band and Louis Armstrong - these are one and the same (?) and should not be speratae entries.

Cheers, Piaras

Dippermouth Blues was first recorded by King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band in 1923, it is most often attributed to Joe "King" Oliver, but we think you (and John Peel) have it right so we've credited Louis Armstrong

Thanks for the suggestion

Wolverine Blues

The #32 listing for Wolverine Blues you have attributed to Jelly Roll Morton should probably be attributed to Gene Rodemich AHO. Morton's version was a hit in 1928 while Rodemich's was a hit in 1923.

Keep up the great work! This is a fabulous website!

You are clearly right to suggest that there is something wrong with that entry. The Billboard listing has the 1923 version of "Wolverine Blues" from Gene Rodemich and the 1926 version from Jelly Roll Morton, just as you suggest.

The issue is with the entry from the RYM web site, it states that the 1923 song was by Jelly Roll Morton, which doesn't seem right. However the original entry says that the B-side was "King Porter Stomp" which was by Morton, not Gene Rodemich.

So we think that the issue is that the RYM web site incorrectly lists the year and it should be 1926. We've changed the data to fix the issue, thanks for drawing it to our attention.
