Mary's A Grand Old Name
I'm disappointed you did not include "Mary's A Grand Old Name."
At 17, I lived with my grandparents. My grandfather born in 1883 at Philadelphia used to sing many of the songs of his youth, So Long Mary, Gee, I wish I had a Girl, Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland, Dear Old Girl, I had a Dream, dear, Tell Me Pretty Maiden, and many others. I was fascinated.
He named my mother "Mary" because he loved the song "Mary's a Grand Old Name." Wasn't that from 1906 too?
Tommy
As we've mentioned elsewhere the administrators of this site don't pick any of the songs listed. We combine entries from charts round the world.
There are very few charts from before 1920 which is why this data is so sparse.
If you know of any web data that lists hit songs from before 1920 we would be glad to consider adding their input to this list.
