Distinct songs of Germany. I understand that special charaters of different languages are a problem since the beginning of computers. Your treatment of them is very nonchalante by saying that you don't care as long as they are consistent across your databases. My proposal +for the German language is to use transcriptions: ae, oe, ue and ss. By the way I like your Work. It is avaluable source of information.

The decision to use the lowest common form is not taken lightly. We realise that this doesn't work for many languages, however we have no choice, enough of our sources map to pure ASCII that it would be impractical for us to do anything else.

Its not that we don't care its that by selecting this approach we can deliver the greatest benefit to the largest number of users.
